The Golden Age of Radio (1920s-50s) was the primary form of home entertainment before television. In our first session, we will talk about the development of radio as a form of mass communication for entertainment, news, farm reports, classical and country music, and the vaudeville stars who were featured entertainers. Session two will further explore the influence of this form of mass communication, the technical aspects of program delivery with a focus on the nationwide panic caused by a realistic radio dramatization of a Martian invasion of Earth called “War of the Worlds.”

Maxine Simson is a lecturer with the NYC Department of Aging and the owner of The Natural Resources Public Relations DBA, a PR and multi-media company.
